The Wareham and Purbeck Karate club offers training and grading in Shotokan Karate. We run a busy and enjoyable class for our junior members, followed by an intensive 2-hour session for the seniors. Our instructor is 5th Dan Sensei Glyn Morgan. We train at Springfield Sports Club, just outside Wareham, on Monday and Thursday evenings. New members and visiting members from other clubs are always welcome.
The club is part of the JKAE, the Japan Karate Association England. The JKAE itself is part of the international JKA, headquartered in Japan. This means that our students can be sure they are receiving the highest standard of training. It also allows any of our members to train at any other JKAE or JKA club in the world, and find the same teaching standards and syllabus in practise there. All our instructors hold an enhanced CRB check and instructors insurance.
Karate is great for kids and adults, for exercise and for building self-confidence and self-discipline. It is also an effective self-defence system. Our club is friendly and sociable, with the opportunity to travel and meet members of other clubs at gradings, competitions and courses.
Please explore the links at the top of the page to learn more about our club, and maybe we'll see you at one of our sessions soon.
ALL GRADES KATA COURSE - BOROUGHBRIDGE NORTH YORKSHIRE
On Saturday 18th July Sensei Morgan showed incredible dedication to his Karate by driving over 600 miles to attend this course headed up by Sensei Ohta 7th Dan JKAE Chief Instructor. This course was held to make sure JKA England student who live this far North get a chance to receive top instruction without travelling all the way south to the London area. In fact Sensei Morgan was the only student south of London to attend the course!
These National courses really are a great way to improve your Karate and make new friends. All students should take note of Sensei's dedication and try to find the time to attend as many of these courses as they are able to in the future.
A full course report from the JKAE web site can be found here.

...................BACK TO TRAINING AFTER CHRISTMAS
Training has certainly not been easy following the Christmas break! Snow and freezing weather has made leaving a warm home and trekking off to the dojo a real pain!
Training has been very painful too! as Sensei Morgan (centre of picture) has been putting everyone through extra fitness training in between intensive Basic, Kata and Kumite practice. Perfect for getting everyone back into the swing of things!
Some of the club's Blackbelts after training are still even managing to smile!

KYU GRADING

A training course and Kyu grading was held on Sunday 8th November at the IBM centre at Hursley. Instructor for the course was Sensei Adel Ismail 5th Dan who provided everyone with a superb and inspiring lesson.
Concentrating on correct form and etiquette he took us through each kata step by step emphasising the important points and giving detailed explanations of many of the techniques. Sections of each kata were practiced many times until we began to reach his very exacting standards!
Things to remember were: Keep hips level, correct expansion and contraction of the body, correct hip rotation, position of the hikite (returning) arm and to be aware and alert throughout the kata from the very beginning to the very end!
This excellent training had a good effect on all the students grading as they all passed!…. Well done!
